Message from Vitality
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in the UK. Every year, around 49,900 women and 350 men are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK, and one in eight women in the UK will develop the disease during their lifetime. Although it’s not a nice topic to talk about with your clients, Breast Cancer Awareness Month presents an opening to talk through cover options to protect against the financial impact of a cancer diagnosis.
The good news is that, thanks to research, more than two thirds of women now survive the disease for 20 years or more, and with further research being carried out and screenings being readily available, this is likely to improve over the coming years.
How insurance from Vitality can help
Traditional Critical Illness Cover is focussed on paying out for more advanced cancer cases, taking a more one-size-fits-all approach to cover where cancers have to be of a specified severity in order to be eligible for a payout. The issue here is that if your client has cancer of a lower severity, even if they have to have fairly invasive procedures and take time out of work, they would typically not be covered.
Our Serious Illness Cover is different. It pays out on a severity basis, which means we’re able to pay all valid cancer claims. So your client will receive a payout that’s right for their circumstances. And if this isn’t 100% of their cover amount, they’ll still have the rest of their cover in place to protect them should they need to claim again.
