Our new Occupational Health Programme helps employers comply with Health & Safety legislation and provide healthy working environments. Employers are responsible for monitoring and acting upon any employee health problems that may occur as a result of work tasks they perform, substances used or the environment they work in. To help them meet these requirements, our programme includes:
Occupational Health Risk Surveillance Assessments
Our Occupational Health professionals can visit workplaces and carry out a range of assessments tailored to the organisation. Using the latest mobile health equipment, they monitor employee health and identify adverse health effects resulting from the workplace environment.
Assessments cover a range of topics including noise at work, forklift driving, lung function, night working and working at heights.
Online Occupational Health Questionnaires
Through a cost-effective annual licence, we offer a wide range of digital health questionnaires that are designed to meet Health and Safety legislation and support employers’ duty of care to employees.
Our questionnaires cover a range of topics including nightworker health, musculoskeletal risk, display screen equipment and new starter health questionnaires. Employers also receive a detailed report of their employees’ results.
Online Occupational Health Support Service
Employers who have our Occupational Health Risk Surveillance Assessments and/or our Online Occupational Health Questionnaires can use our Online Occupational Health Support Service. This service allows employers to contact our experts to discuss their workplace issue and receive advice about what action they may need to take. We provide advice on a wide range of topics from employee absence, mental health and disability to workplace conflicts.
Occupational Health Management Referrals
If an employer requires greater Occupational Health intervention, we can offer an Occupational Health Management Referral service for an additional fee. Following an agreed process, our Occupational Health experts talk directly to employees, providing advice and developing mutually beneficial solutions based on the latest legislation and organisational needs. This service can only be purchased by employers with our Occupational Health Risk Surveillance Assessments and/or our Online Occupational Health Questionnaires.

In preparation for the forthcoming General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Health Shield, like many other companies, completed a review of its data collection, handling and storage processes. Health Shield is committed to fulfilling its data protection obligations and meeting individuals’ and firms’ expectations of privacy, by collecting only the information that it requires to provide its services.
Following this, Health Shield has decided to move away from storing Members’ National Insurance (NI) numbers and will instead now be requesting the provision of payroll numbers, or an alternative unique reference number.
We would request that you undertake the following actions on behalf of your clients:
1. By 31st May 2018, please provide a payroll number for all of your clients’ scheme employees. Where it is not possible to provide a payroll number, please provide an alternative unique reference number, as long as it is unique to the member within a given scheme. This information can be sent directly for my attention to mmellor@healthshield.co.uk in a password protected document. To assist with this process I can provide you with an up to date active member list which you can return including the requested information.
2. Immediate action. Direct all new membership listings, starters, leavers and change requests to changes@healthshield.co.uk. Please ensure this information no longer contains NI numbers. To assist with this process we encourage all clients/brokers to provide member information to Health Shield on our new template Health Shield template, unless you already have a file transfer portal in operation.
Where your client directly manages their membership listing with Health Shield please forward this communication to your key contact in order that the above points can be actioned.
May I take this opportunity to thank you for assistance with this review and your continued support in helping to ensure our award-winning cash plan remains at the forefront of the market for both Members and clients alike.
