Income Protection Benefit Update

Removal of 2 week deferred period

In light of the potential issues that Coronavirus (Covid-19) could present, Legal & General has now applied a Covid-19 temporary removal of our 2 week deferred period to new Income Protection Benefit (IPB) plans.

Existing Customers

We’ll honour claims made as a result of being diagnosed with Covid-19 for existing customers, in line with our usual Term and Conditions. People may be off work due to self-isolation without necessarily experiencing symptoms. Our product terms state that individuals would need to have a medical condition to qualify under IPB Terms and Conditions.

However, we will consider the medically advised period of self-isolation as counting towards any work absence, even if Covid-19 has not yet been diagnosed.

Future applicants

After careful assessment of the current pandemic, we have made the difficult decision to apply a Covid-19 temporary removal of our 2 week deferred period for anyone applying from the 19 March 2020 onwards.

In uncertain times, we would like to offer two certainties: Our claims approach will always be fair and thorough, paying all valid claims and our purpose of supporting our customers in some of the most difficult times in their lives will never change.

We’ll continue to update our partners on our approach as we continue to monitor this difficult, evolving situation.
