How we will be treating any claims under life, income protection or CI
- Death from Coronavirus will be handled like any other life insurance claim.
- Coronavirus is not a named critical illness and therefore would not be a valid reason for claim under our Critical Illness policy.
- A diagnosis of Coronavirus will be considered under an income protection policy. AIG Life policies are written with a minimum deferred period of 4 weeks but can be deferred up to one year after your client stops working depending on the terms of their contract.
- Payments are also dependant on the insured satisfying occupation definitions specific to their policy wording.
In relation to our underwriting stance. Will this have any effect on underwriting an application?
- The changes to our current underwriting are in relation to travel to high risk areas as defined by the government’s travel advice. If your client has recently travelled (within the last month) or is planning to travel to an area the UK government advises against, we may need to postpone our decision until after they’ve returned to the UK and any isolation period has concluded.
Are there any changes to medical screening for both the applicant and examinee?
- Our third party medical screening providers will be asking clients if they have travelled to high risk areas as defined by the government’s travel advice. If so, they will arrange the medical exam at least 14 days after return to allow for the quarantine period
