Coming in at a staggering 24 stones, the Tongan frontrower Ben Tameifuna is expected to be the heaviest player at this year’s Rugby World Cup. Whilst in second place at ‘just’ 21.3 stones comes the ‘Tongan Thor’ and Australian prop, Taniela Tupou.

These are absolutely frightening figures and the sight of these monsters colliding with other players will certainly draw the ooohs and aaaahs from the stands!

And whilst the RWC is guaranteed to be a great spectacle with athletes showcasing their skills all-around the pitch, the ever-increasing size and speed of rugby players is likely to lead to one thing – more injuries.

Think about Wales’ Taulupe Fatetau who has been ruled out of the RWC after breaking his collar bone. It must be a massive disappointment to miss out on rugby’s biggest stage, but at least he will be able to play rugby again. Back in 2016 England and Wasps flanker, Sam Jones suffered a broken leg at a training camp so severe that he had to retire from the game altogether. He was only 26 years old.

Do your clients play rugby? Consider one of our accident plans…

Whilst your clients may not play at the same level, rugby can still be a dangerous sport at amateur level. Whether at week-day training or game-day on the weekend, injury can strike at any time which could lead to your client having to take time off work or incur other out-of-pocket expenses.

We believe accident insurance should be an essential consideration for anyone who plays rugby. At APRIL UK we offer 2 personal accident plans that could fit the bill:

Our basic Personal Accident Plan provides:

  • 21 fracture benefits paying up to £3,000
  • Anterior cruciate ligament benefit paying up to £1,500
  • 3 levels of cover, starting from just £8.14 per month

Whilst our Sports Accident Plan offers even greater protection:

  • Up to £350 per week from inability to work
  • Up to £350 per week from hospitalisation
  • Up to £35,000 from serious injury and accidental death
  • Up to £250 from a fracture

So whether they want to spend a little for basic protection, or more for comprehensive cover, we are likely to be able to help you.

All our plans are easy to take out
