Educating the broker community is key to growing the self and custom build sector.

The Government’s objective with the ‘Right to Build’ legislation is to ensure that self and custom build accounts for around 30% of new housing in England, which will dramatically increase the likelihood of Mortgage Brokers receiving enquiries for self and custom build mortgages.

To this end, BuildLoan is working hard to grow the self and custom build sector by educating the Broker community through a series of roadshows focusing on the opportunities available as a result of the new legislation. These events ensure Brokers have a better understanding of the self and custom build mortgage sector, as well as the support, exclusive products and Lenders available through BuildLoan.

“The bulk of enquiries will come from sites with multiple plots – custom build sites.  These sites will generate business opportunities which will require a spread of Lenders and specialist products to meet the specific needs of Self and Custom Builders.  They also require Mortgage Brokers fully up to speed with the specialist nature of this type of mortgage, and in particular cashflow.”

So far, BuildLoan has taken the roadshows to Brokers in Swindon, Derby, Warrington and most recently Solihull, Manchester, Maidstone and Chelmsford. Lenders which attended the roadshows include Darlington Building Society, Bath, Mansfield, Newcastle, Stafford Railway, Furness, Chorley, Dudley and Tipton & Coseley Building Societies, as well as Virgin Money, Affirmative, Amicus and Precise Mortgages.

Feedback from both Lenders and Mortgage Brokers to date has been hugely positive.
