Freedom Health Insurance has reviewed the Freedom Elite private medical insurance policy as part of its business commitment to continuously improve and update its products and service in line with changes in customers’ healthcare needs and in the private medical insurance market.
The updated policy will help to ensure brokers and their clients have access to products that meet their requirements with documentation that is clear and user-friendly. The updated Freedom Elite cover took effect for both new policies and renewals on 1st January 2017.
Updates to the Freedom Elite cover include:
- a reduced number of exclusions;
- pregnancy complications and maternity cash benefit moved to core cover;
- enhancements to the Freedom Elite cancer cover;
- cover for outpatient diagnostic tests on GP referral introduced; and
- the six-month waiting period for dental, optical and private GP benefit removed.
In addition, other enhancements to the documentation include:
- a simplified style and layout;
- easy to understand language; and
- the introduction of new information booklets to explain aspects of cover in more detail.
Separate contract for group schemes
We have also simplified our documentation by introducing separate contracts and dedicated documentation for group schemes and individuals. This will help to make the cover clearer and, most importantly, help to improve clients’ understanding of the contract they are buying.
Executive benefits
The Executive benefits cover has been removed from the Freedom Elite plan and is no longer available to select as an optional benefit for new business. However, clients who currently have this cover will be able to retain it if they wish.
Helpful new booklets
We have developed some new information booklets for clients which help to explain aspects of our cover in more detail. These include Chronic Conditions Explained and Cancer Cover Explained.
