COVID-19: Medical Screening Update

Here at Legal & General we continue to offer market leading underwriting capability despite the unprecedented times we find ourselves in. Our Underwriting team remains committed to the standards set before the COVID-19 crisis unfolded, and we are determined to support as many customers as possible by giving them the peace of mind that protection can bring.

Legal & General offers over c.83% of applicants an instant decision following application and over 90% have a decision within 24 hours. This is coupled with having some of the most generous non-medical referral limits in the market.

We continue to receive reports back from GPs within a timescale we would expect. We have confidence that the continued receipt of reports will allow us to offer cover to a variety of customers, not just those without health concerns. If your customers have any other examples of medical evidence which could support their application, we are happy to consider them where appropriate

What are we doing differently?
We recognise that COVID-19 has meant some traditional forms of medical evidence cannot currently be obtained and  we continue to work with our advisers and customers to find solutions to those who require medical screenings.

Where possible we’ll be replacing screenings with GP reports to help reduce the number of customers waiting for a decision.  Each qualifying case will be reviewed proactively by us and you’ll be notified when we have done so.

Our focus has been and continues to be to offer cover to the maximum number of people. With this in mind we are proactively supporting our customers who are awaiting screenings to understand the current restrictions with face to face screenings, and also our non-medical referral limits.

Our NEW virtual workshops and webinars

We have expanded our programme of live webinars with 13 now available. Our NEW virtual workshops have been launched which are short, interactive and operate remotely. They are currently available for

  • Introduction to Business protection. We use an interactive case study to explore the requirements a business may have and then cover the technical side of writing the policies (1.5 to 2hours)
  • Be curious. A shorter version of our workshop focusing on asking the right questions, use of sales techniques and how to handle common objections (1hour)
