With COVID-19 transforming nearly every aspect of our lives, it’s shown that it’s impossible to know what tomorrow may hold. Our approach to claims is simple. If a customer makes a valid claim for any of the accidental, sickness, or funeral related benefits covered by MultiProtect, including if they need to be admitted to a UK hospital, we will pay the claim in a timely manner.

Our claims statistics underline how we deliver on this promise. In 2020, we paid out £12.1m across 14,036 individual protection claims – that’s an average of 55 claims every working day1. Of these, 6,106 were for broken bones, and we also paid 7,362 claims for hospitalisation, of which 89% were for sickness1.

We are proud to have been able to help our customers during the pandemic, by paying 244 individual protection claims, totalling £434,204 in benefits, for claims directly caused by COVID-191.

Among these was policyholder Mr A, a Care Assistant, who, after contracting COVID-19, had to spend 95 days in hospital, including time on a ventilator. Mr A had his policy for over 12 months, meaning he was able to claim a maximum of 90 days hospitalisation for sickness. He received a total payment of £22,500, which helped him focus on his recovery.
