At The Exeter, we’re passionate about income protection.
Given that income is the foundation to all of our lives, doesn’t it make sense that protecting it should be the cornerstone of financial advice?
Sadly, income protection remains hugely undersold in the world of protection insurance.
A common myth
A common myth about income protection is that it’s not required if your client has a critical illness policy.
To us, critical illness cover is a bit like playing bingo. If your client’s illness matches the criteria, they’ll receive a well-deserved pay-out. If it doesn’t, they could be quite rightly left to feel like they’ve wasted their money.
Income protection doesn’t discriminate against illnesses or conditions. If ill-health is keeping your client off work, it’s clear they need financial support to keep a roof over their heads until they’re ready to return.
Income protection by The Exeter
It’s a telling fact that in 2015, just 9% of the claims we paid at The Exeter were for cancer, heart attacks/surgery or strokes – 4 of the top 5 critical illness claims.
Instead, nearly 60% of claims were due to accidents, injuries, back and musculoskeletal problems, showing just how vulnerable good health is.
Have the conversation
Income is the glue that keeps your client’s lives together. By advising them to take out income protection, you’re ensuring that they’ll be able to meet those commitments whatever life throws their way.
