Manage mental health with HealthWise

As Bob Hoskins said in an old advert, ‘it’s good to talk’. This statement has never been more true, with 1 in 4 adults now suffering from mental health problems in the UK.

Mental Health Awareness week (May 13-19) emphasises the importance of recognising when you’re struggling and being able to seek help before things get too overwhelming. The extent to which mental health conditions effect the body and mind depend on how they are managed.

Mental health is the leading cause of sickness absence in the UK, with 70 million working days lost each year – and in a report, 38% of workers confess they are afraid to discuss problems at work for fear of jeopardising their job prospects* – adding to the stress and anxiety.

In 2018, 10% of our income protection claims were due to mental health conditions, including stress and anxiety. This was a rise of 3% on 2017.

Here at The Exeter, we find ways to help our members when they aren’t feeling at their best. That’s why we shaped the services available within our new member benefits app, HealthWise to fit the types of claim made under our income protection policies.

HealthWise provides our income protection members with access to mental health support, offering the opportunity to talk to experienced counsellors who can assess and help to treat mental health conditions, offer emotional support and build plans towards a positive mindset.

As an adviser, HealthWise provides you with the reassurance that when recommending The Exeter, your clients will have access to a complete range of services that will support them throughout the life of their policy.

In addition, they also have access to

  • Physiotherapy
  • GP on Demand
  • Second medical opinion
