April 26th is “On your feet Britain” day, a high-profile campaign motivating people across Britain to reduce sitting and convert it to standing time, simply by getting to their feet. With the current obesity epidemic, it comes as no surprise that sitting for just 4 hours* a day has dramatic consequences that affect a person’s metabolic rate, blood sugar levels and harmful enzymes – which can lead to medical conditions developing or getting worse.

However, these risks can be easily reduced through small actions and changes to behaviour.  It could be standing during a phone call, using the stairs more often or having a walking meeting – every little extra will help to reduce health risks or improve conditions such as type 2 diabetes, obesity or even mental health.

At The Exeter, we find ways to help our members when they aren’t feeling at their best. That’s why we’ve shaped the benefits within HealthWise, our new member benefits platform, to help our members feel better, faster.

With HealthWise, our life cover members now have access to lifestyle coaching that can tackle any problems that exist and affect wellbeing. It could be sleep, work, diet, stress, habits or exercise; HealthWise will help deliver long-term and sustainable improvements, for example helping to manage medical conditions such as diabetes.

In addition, they also have access to:

  • Nutritional advice
  • GP on demand
  • Second medical opinion
