Hi everyone and welcome to this weeks protection update.
I just wanted to start by saying a big thankyou to Carl Heard from LV who stepped in last week to talk about added value benefits. He wasn’t doing a product push but really challenging you and asking how you position these benefit with your clients.
He talked about an ‘on risk call’ which I think is such a good idea. It’s that simple telephone call once everything is sorted to just make it clear about what the client has taken and the benefits they will have access to.
If you missed it because of the shorter week (the update went out last Wednesday); I’ve added a link to this week’s protection update. Please take a look…
The Trust Hub
Now something I am delighted to get launched this week is our brand new ‘Trust Hub’.
What is the Trust Hub?
Well, it’s a resource centre on the adviser site which has all sorts of support to help you write more protection policies into Trust.
To find the Trust Hub, just go to the adviser site… click on Protection… and you’ll see the Trust Hub as one of the main links.
Let’s take a look…
Trust Insight Podcasts
You’ll probably remember that I got stuck into all the main providers last year where I challenged them to demonstrate how to write a protection policy into trust using one of their trusts.
We used a typical client scenario and we looked at the paper process to get the job done.
All of those podcasts are listed on the Trust Insight Podcast area.
We’ve also got a recording of the webinar we ran a couple of months ago called ‘Writing Protection Policies into Trust’.
There is a podcast showing you how to construct a letter of wishes.
And there is even a podcast showing you how to achieve a digital signature for a Royal London Trust form using DocuSign. Royal London are the only provider to have this facility available.
I think what we demonstrated is that there is significant number of differences for the process of writing protection policies into trust for each of these providers.
That’s not helpful for you, the adviser, but lots of advisers do use these podcasts as resource tools.
There are a couple of providers that still need to add their podcast and I will track them down over the coming weeks and months and we will end up with a full suite of ‘how to write protection polices into trust’ for all of them.
At the bottom of this section, we’ve also got a set of trade press articles related to specific trust angles. Again, they are all related to personal protection and again, that is going to be the place when you can find out what you need to know.
Trust Sales Aids
In the Trust Sales Aids section, we’ve got a set of Trust Sales Aids that you can download.
The first document (the letter of wishes template) isn’t a sales aid as such but this is an invaluable tool to help you get the job done.
It’s a simple word document and it helps your client think of who they wish to benefit from the proceeds of their life policy and also the circumstances under which they should receive benefit. You just need to edit as appropriate.
The ‘Benefits of Trust’ sales aid is a brand-new document. We’ve deliberately tried to keep it simple and it has the strapline Right Money, Right Hands, Right Time.
The idea with this document is that you can use this to illustrate why its so important to write the policy into Trust.
We’ve set this document up with ‘The Right Mortgage’ branding, but this can be branded to your own business. Just send a request through to our marketing team and we will get this work done for you.
The Guide to Trusts goes into a bit more detail and provides a more detailed explanation.
And finally, the Guide for Trustees is something we are developing. Again, it will be written in plain English and will be a document you can use when you have your discussions with the Trustees.
The aim will be to explain the role and responsibilities of being a trustee in a simple and understandable way.
Trust Provider Tools
Trust Provider Tools is a collection of some of the best provider tools and literature related to the subject of trusts.
In here you’ll find various documents such as the intestacy flow charts for each country in the UK – they are all a bit different.
You’ll find parental responsibility flow charts. Those are a bit of an eye opener especially for unmarried dads.
We’ve got guides for lasting powers of attorney as well as lots of other trust specific documents.
I’m writing to all the providers and we will continue to build this up.
What you’ll see is this section is clean and very easy to find exactly what you’re looking for.
Trust Guru
And my favourite part of the Trust Hub is a section called ‘Trust Guru’.
This is simply a big long Q&A page with questions related to all things Trusts.
I must say that this is only personal protection at the moment, but again I would imagine this page will continue to develop.
Let me pick a couple of examples:
- How do I set up protection for unmarried couples?
- Is a Settlor always a Trustee?
- Why can’t I use a will to indicate who my beneficiaries are?
- Is there a way of paying a claim directly to beneficiaries where the policy is written into trust?
- Can I choose trustees who do not live in the UK?
I think there are over 100 questions and all you need to do is click on the question and the answer, written in plain and understandable English will appear.
What I’d like you to do is engage with me. Let me know what you think? Is there something missing you’d like to see?
This can be an incredibly powerful resource and I don’t believe anyone else has something like this.
The age-old problem of not enough policies being written into Trust is exactly why we built this resource for you so let me know what you think?
Summer Roadshows
And finally, I did write to some of you this week about our summer roadshows.
We’ve challenged the providers to talk about things you need to know and I think these are going to be excellent events.
There are still some places on each of these events so I’ve added the registration links to this week’s protection update.
So that’s it from me for another week.
Have a great weekend and I’ll see you soon!
