Our fracture cover can be added to your client’s Personal Protection or Income Protection policy at a fixed cost and free of underwriting. It covers broken bones, dislocations as well as ligament ruptures and tears.

The cover pays out £2,000, £4,000 or £6,000 depending on your client’s injury, and they can claim multiple times per policy year, up to a maximum of £6,000. For joint policies this can be added for either or both lives assured.

Last year, we paid out £1.2 million in fracture cover claims which accounted for 90% of the claims we received. Most claims were for fractures (£848,000), followed by knee ligament tears (£182,000) and dislocations (£148,000).

In the cases where claims weren’t paid out, this was due to the type of injury not being covered by the policy or occurring whilst the customer was taking part in one of the excluded activities. In other cases, the injury occurred before the fracture cover benefit was added to the policy, or the injury was not diagnosed by a professional.

You might think your client needs to be playing sports regularly to need fracture cover. We’ve seen that this isn’t the case, one of our customers fell whilst playing with their child and fractured their collarbone, we paid £2,000 and settled the claim within 3 working days after the claim notification. In another case, a customer suffered a knee ligament tear whilst at work and claimed £6,000, we were able to pay and settle the claim within 5 working days.
