Practical Protection Podcast – S5 Ep 1 The Year Ahead
(50 mins CPD)
Hi everyone, I hope you had a great Christmas and New Year. Season 4 saw a range of different topics and guests, and we finished the season discussing the cost of insurance. We explained how your age really can have a big impact on the price of your premium.
For the first episode of season 5, I am joined by Peter Hamilton and co-host Roy McLoughlin. Peter has worked within the insurance industry for around 40 years and has had a number of roles, aiming to improve access to insurance and the reputation of the insurance industry as a whole.
The need for collaboration is more than ever. A real positive change can be made within the industry if different parties are working together with the same end goal. There’s still a long way to go with improving things such as access to insurance.
A focus for change this year is electronic GPRs. The NHS has been under huge strain during COVID, meaning that it can sometimes take quite a while for medical reports to be returned. A lot of GP surgeries do complete medical reports electronically already, but seeing an increase in digitised procedures could speed up the process and make things more secure from a data protection point of view.
There has been growth in clients wanting to know the ethical and social behaviour of the providers which they use, so keeping up to date with this as a person working within the industry could prove beneficial.
The next instalment of season 5 will be the first episode of Mental Health Awareness Week, in association with the Institute of Faculty of Actuaries. This will be a series of podcasts finished off by a live webinar, focusing on mental health and how it can have an impact on the different stages of the insurance journey.
