Hi everyone and welcome to this weeks protection update.
I’m not sure whether you’ve seen any of the recent communications about our CIC under the Bonnet webinars but these actually start next Tuesday. There are only 2x of these webinars and we will also be joined by Paul Roberts from CI Expert who will be doing the kind of job that Richard Osman does on pointless.
These are technical sessions and the providers are going to talk about specific areas where their products can provide a good outcome solution for customers.
We do have spaces left and I think these will be worth joining in with so please join us on Tuesday next week – or Tuesday the week after.

Income Protection for Diabetics? Try National Friendly
Now were running with the Income Protection theme again this week because we’re right in the middle of our Income Protection Champion competition.
Last week I gave you an indication about who’s doing well and I’ll do the same again, this time next week.
But people who have Diabetes are often difficult to find any kind of protection cover for.
Is this much of an issue? Well according to Diabetes.org.uk More people than ever have diabetes. And more people than ever are at risk of type 2 diabetes. They predict that 5.5 million people will have diabetes in the UK by 2030 last year, the NHS actually spent 10% of its budget on Diabetes. That’s around £10 billion. So yes, it’s a relevant problem and it’s a growing problem and they go on to say that 13.6 million people are now at increased risk of type 2 diabetes in the UK.
From your point of view; this medical complication can make it more difficult to obtain suitable and appropriate cover.
So, I caught up with Karen Stoddart from National Friendly this week to ask about a unique position they hold in the market which allows you to get Income Protection cover for those clients who happen to have type 2 diabetes…
I started by asking why exactly do life companies see people who happen to have diabetes as a much higher underwriting risk….
