International Medical Group has long provided specialist medical insurance products for students who are studying abroad. Building on this experience, IMG Europe has now launched a new product for students from the UK and EU, and for learning establishments in the UK or EU.

The key points are as follows:

  • The product will cover a wide range of medical costs, with a choice of two maximum policy values, and no excess
  • Priced in GB£ or EU€ or US$
  • Choice of three Areas of Cover
  • There is no cover for pre-existing conditions, which means there is no underwriting and the plan is easy to purchase
  • WorldStudy is available to individual students
  • It is also available to groups, i.e. where a single premium is paid to IMG in order to cover a number of students. This means the product can be marketed to educational establishments, such as Universities, Schools, Language Schools and so on, who will pay the premium for a body of students
  • the minimum duration of cover is 30 days (but, for a group, as long as the overall group duration is at least 30 days, individual students can be on cover within the group for a minimum of 5 days). Cover can be extended for up to 5 years
  • Individual students can be quoted online, as can small groups (as above). For larger groups, IMG will be delighted to produce quotes on a case-by-case basis. These group quotes can be expressed in terms of a simple daily rate
  • cover for medical costs relating to treatment of Covid-19 is included

Here are some key eligibility criteria:

  • all students, whether as individuals or as members of a group, must be studying outside their country of habitual residence
  • for students who apply as individuals, their country of habitual residence must be in the UK or EU
  • for these individual students, who have a country of habitual residence in the UK or EU, their destination country can be worldwide
  • when marketing this product in its group form to an educational institution, the institution must have an address in the EU or UK
  • the students who will be included in the institution’s group scheme can be from anywhere in the world

The new WorldStudy product is focused on medical costs, rather than on travel-type risks such as cancelled flights or lost luggage, or on other possible risks relating to course fees, accommodation costs and so on.
