There’s a well-known Nottingham saying that you may have heard of “It looks a bit black over Bill’s mother’s”.

It’s really old, and originates from when the Prince of Wales’ mother was staying at her son’s royal farm near Clifton Bridge. A group of miners had just left a nearby pub and noticed that the weather was looking a bit murky in the distance. One miner, who couldn’t remember which Royal owned the farm, suddenly announced; “It looks a bit black over Bill’s mother’s”.

Well, here at the Nottingham Building Society we have our own saying; ‘A flexible mortgage lender is the best kind of lender’. Okay, it’s not as catchy as the other saying, but we stand by it.

Making life better

You see, there have been loads of clampdowns in the mortgage market recently, including increased stamp duty. And it’s making it more complicated for you to sell these kinds of mortgages. We don’t think that’s right.
