Like most UK providers who have policyholders in both UK and Europe, Freedom has been monitoring its position in relation to Brexit, trying to judge what action, if any, is required to ensure the certain protection of our policyholders, whilst also seeking to minimise any unnecessary disruption or change. Unfortunately, based on our circumstances, even at this late stage in the process, the position remains unclear.

Therefore, in conjunction with our current insurance partners in Malta, Advent Insurance PCC Ltd – Freedom Health Cell, Freedom has decided to take action to eliminate any uncertainty related to our ability to provide our products and services, regardless of the Brexit outcome.

Chaucer Insurance Company DAC

So, for the reasons outlined above, Freedom will start to transfer the underwriting of its UK and EU policies to Chaucer Insurance Company DAC with effect from 1st March 2019. Chaucer Insurance Company DAC is an A- rated insurer, authorised and regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland and registered in the Republic of Ireland.

Chaucer Insurance Company DAC is also regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (registration number 783373), a member of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) and policyholders will have access to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS).

Timescales

Freedom will start to transfer policies to Chaucer Insurance Company DAC with effect from 1st March 2019. The underwriter is identified on the policy schedule. New policies and existing policies transferring at renewal will have the letter “C” replacing the first “0” of the policy number (i.e. policy GI000001 will become GIC00001) from the date of transfer to the new underwriter.

Advent Insurance PCC Ltd – Freedom Health Cell will therefore cease to offer the inception or renewal of Freedom policies with effective dates after 28th February 2019, but will continue to provide cover under all existing policies until they reach their next renewal date.

Stability and security

As a result, all Freedom policies will have the security of an A- rated insurer, able to underwrite in the UK and Europe and be unaffected by the final Brexit outcome. In addition, all policies will continue to be administered by Freedom Health Insurance from our new offices in Poole so you and your clients will continue to receive the high levels of customer service that you currently receive from us.

Updated documentation

We have updated all relevant Freedom policy documentation to reflect this change. The updated documentation can be viewed on our website.

There are no other changes to Freedom Health Insurance policies as a result of these updates. Your clients will carry on enjoying the same high levels of service and Freedom will be partnered with an A- rated insurer giving the ongoing stability you expect.

If you have any queries regarding these changes, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
