Fifty years ago today the first UK heart transplant was carried out by a team led by Dr Marius Barnard. The work carried out by Marius inspired him to devise the first protection insurance and today this is called critical illness cover. We’re proud that Marius chose to partner with Scottish Widows and was instrumental in helping us develop our critical illness insurance philosophy, culture and products.
Prior to his death Marius asked Johnny Timpson, our Industry Affairs Manager, to safeguard and advocate his greatest achievement, critical illness cover.
We are therefore sharing with you a short film and a documentary which was created by his daughter Naudene to mark the 50th anniversary of the first heart transplant – watch these inspiring films as a unique and rewarding method of CPD.
