Has Britain reached boiling point? With 57% of HR professionals saying they notice staff suffering from burnout over the summer, our latest research reveals mounting pressures faced by employees across the UK.

Our Wellbeing Index is a report on the state of the nation’s wellbeing, at home and in the workplace. Released on a quarterly basis, the report explores regional wellbeing trends, presents national statistics and offers actionable strategies on how organisations can tackle issues raised.

In the latest release, our data suggests that despite recovery time being essential to wellbeing, summer can actually be a pressure-filled season, particularly for working parents and under 34s.

Our first report April 2019 revealed that high workloads and long hours were turning UK workplaces into pressure cookers that impact wellbeing. A staggering 28% of working adults felt that stress and pressure at work had often or very often reached unmanageable levels over the previous quarter.

Half of HR professionals agreed that employees were unable to complete what was expected of them during the day, but almost two thirds weren’t doing anything to prevent employees working late.

Leavism – when employees continue to work outside of contracted hours or whilst on annual leave – becomes an even bigger issue in the summer according to our most recent Wellbeing Index.

Over a third of people feel like their employer expects them to be on standby or thinking about work during annual leave. Shockingly 11% admit to responding to work emails or calls whilst on holiday.

Our Wellbeing Index also features a city league table, a benchmark for wellbeing across the UK which takes into account physical, financial, social and mental wellbeing. Where does your city fall?
