  • The APRIL Group is still a partly privately owned company, and was started in 1988 as a personal lines business. The overall turnover of the consolidated business across all lines was €861m in 2016. The headquarters are in Lyon, France and the company employs 3,800 employees, in 33 offices over 31 countries.
  • The IPMI business line, of which APRIL International UK is now part of, is worth €140m currently, with ambition to double this by 2020.
  • Across the IPMI business line, we have 130,000 insured members, in 180 countries and have 270 employees globally, with 13 offices in London, Paris, Munich, Montreux, Mexico City, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Ho Chi Min City, Bangkok, Manila, Singapore and Jakarta. In the Asia Pacific region we are compliant in Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, and are shortly opening an office in Indonesia. As advised, we are not able to insure members based in the USA, Switzerland and the UAE, however for the UAE we are looking to plug this gap this year, and will keep you updated on developments in this area.
  • In the last few years we have had minimal rate increase in our APRIL International Group and individuals plans and below are the average increases applied on Group plans. For 2017/18 we applied a 5% increase on the group rates, and 0% increase on the Individual rates.

Medicare Group Plan – commission 10% initial and 10% renewal

This can be offered to groups with 3 or more employees and we offer terms on the following basis:-

  • Group size 3-9 – 2 year Moratorium
  • Group size 3-9 – CPME if previously insured
  • Group size 10+ – MHD, and no medical questionnaire
  • Groups 50+ are usually performance rated and we can offer bespoke benefits.

Medicare Long-Term plan – commission 25% initial and 15% renewal

  • This is an annual, renewable medical insurance package designed for expats living and working abroad and the plans provide cover for 12 months.
  • The maximum age for applying is 70, however, renewal is offered to members who are already insured with us.
  • The plans are payable in £, $ or € and payment is annually by bank transfer, cheque or credit/debit card. Payments can be made quarterly by credit/debit card.
  • We have two areas of cover, Area One – Worldwide excluding the US/Caribbean and Area Two – Worldwide. Our plans provide full portability within this area and access to any private medical facilities of choice.
  • The full schedule of benefits is illustrated on page 6 of the Brochure, and gives a clear guide to what is included in each of the 4 cover levels.
  • There are two options for underwriting;
    • Full medical underwriting, where the applicant provides us with their medical details in order for us accept the application, and we may apply exclusions for pre-existing medical conditions or in a few cases, have to decline cover. Any members over 65 have to provide full medical details.
    • The other option is moratorium, whereby any medical conditions in existence in the last 2 years will be excluded from cover, and is available to members under 65.

Medicare Short-Term plan – commission 20% initial and 20% on any extension

  • Designed for individuals and families of any nationality living, working or traveling outside of their Home Country.
  • Target clients are those on work secondments, gap year’s, Sabbaticals, Contractors and world trips.
  • The Plan is not available to clients living, working or traveling extensively in the USA or Caribbean.
  • The maximum age of enrolment is aged 70.
  • The Plan can be purchased for a minimum of 1 month and a maximum of 12 months – cover must be purchased in whole months.
  • Cover can be extended for a maximum period of 6 months.
  • Only one extension period is accepted.
  • Maximum period of cover is 18 months.
    • Plans of 3+ months duration eligible for the Out of Area Extension Benefit (Emergency treatments only up £20,000/$40,000/€30,000- Max 30 days)
    • Plans of 3+ months duration and clients who are aged less than 50 years, eligible to purchase the Pre-existing Condition Cover benefit (Acute episodes only up to £20,000/$40,000/€30,000).

Medicare Student Plan – commission 20% initial and 20% for any extensions

  • Students of any nationality studying or working outside of their Home Country as part of a college or University Course
  • Not available to Students in the USA and Caribbean
  • 1-12 months cover available – cover can be extended up to 3 times (for up to 12 months each time) to maximum policy duration of 4 years
  • 1 level of cover (in-patient, out-patient, evacuation, personal accident and 60 days home cover)
  • Enrolment age is between 18 and 40 years

Additional Services – in addition to the benefits of the plans above, APRIL International UK is the only international provider to offer the three additional features that go beyond the basic definition of health insurance, free of charge and on all insurance plans.

  • The Blood Care Foundation, if an APRIL International UK client is badly injured, needs a blood transfusion or has a rare blood type the Blood Care Foundation will arrange for blood to be transported to almost any location within 24 hours.
  • Best Doctors, if an APRIL International UK client receives an uncertain diagnosis or requires a second medical opinion on a proposed treatment plan they can contact Best Doctors who will arrange a review of the medical diagnosis/treatment plan with a world class specialist in the specific medical field related to the clients’ medical condition.
  • Red 24 will respond to APRIL International UK clients in the event of a natural disaster or life-threatening situations resulting from political or civil unrest. Clients are also given an access code to web portal where country specific information can be obtained together with travel safety tips and travel disruption information.
